The rest of the staff is comprised of the organization's full-time and part-time Coordinators who are located across the state. These personnel work to support the 24-hour, 365-day-a-year facility.
The Birmingham support staff consist of full time Referral Coordinators and Technical Coordinators. Referral Coordinators work as the vital links to healthcare facilities and funeral homes and are ready all day every day to respond to donor referral calls. Upon screening a call, they assess donor records for suitability, counsel families, obtain consent and coordinate the recovery with all parties that may be included. Technical Coordinators retrieve, transport, evaluate and distribute the corneal tissue to surgeons, who will transplant the tissue within a matter of days.
Our Regional offices also consist of full-time and part-time technical coordinators to allow us to efficiently cover the state of Alabama.
