Dr. Ben Roberts Interview with Geoffrey from Tenwek Hospital
One of the most rewarding aspects of the eye banking profession is the opportunity to work with compassionate and humanitarian-minded individuals and organizations.
Global Sight Network (GSN), a service of the Alabama Eye Bank founded in 2008, is a non-profit consortium of 35 U.S. eye banks, which primarily exists to preserve medically eligible corneas in glycerol that did not meet criteria for optical keratoplasty. However, through GSN we are also able to provide fresh corneas to locations around the world that do not have eye banks.
Through the generosity of a group of eye banks, we were able to send two shipments of donated corneas to missionary surgeon Dr. Ben Roberts in Kenya. He was so thankful for these gifts! Geoffrey is but one of the twenty-seven individuals helped by these precious gifts.
Without the donor families none of these surgeries could have taken place, so we appreciate your continued support and encouragement as we work to restore sight worldwide.
